How much does data-driven reporting *actually* help small businesses?

I'm curious to know, how much does implementing data-driven reporting actually help small businesses? I mean, I understand the theory, but in practice, is it really worth the investment in software, training, and the time it takes to analyze all that information? Has anyone seen tangible benefits like increased revenue or reduced costs?

Data-driven reporting helps a small business only when the owner uses it to make decisions, not just collect dashboards. That is where people fool themselves. Buying software and staring at charts does nothing by itself. The real payoff comes when reports show which channel wastes budget, which product brings repeat orders, where costs keep rising, or why leads stop converting. Even simple tracking can expose bad assumptions early. For a smaller company, that usually means tighter spending, faster adjustments, and fewer decisions based on guesswork.
