Portable NDT gear for structural steel inspections on-site
Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice on field equipment. I’ve recently taken on a contract for inspecting structural steel beams on a bridge project. The main issue is that I’ll be working at heights and often in quite windy conditions, so I need a hardness tester that is truly portable and doesn't require a bunch of cables or a separate laptop to operate. It needs to be rugged enough to survive a bit of a rough environment but also simple enough to use while wearing gloves. Does anyone have a "go-to" brand for heavy-duty construction site inspections?

Working on bridges is tough on gear, so you definitely need something with a high IP rating and a solid housing. I usually prefer handheld units that have an integrated display and internal memory, so you can just snap the measurement and move on to the next beam without fumbling with a notepad. I’ve had good experiences with the industrial kits found at https://teqto.pro/portable-hardness-testers because they are built for exactly this kind of field work. Their devices are pretty ergonomic and the battery life is usually enough to last an entire shift, which is a lifesaver when you're stuck up on a scaffold all day.
